On Dec 19th, Thursday, at 6pm, Douglas Library will host the launch of Volume SIX of Pen to Paper, the collection created by my UCC short course 'Finding Your Voice' students. All are welcome to come and hear the work, support Cork Simon by buying a book, have a glass of wine and be inspired to sign up for the class, which is currently open for bookings for January!
Poetry Kitchen will gather poets and writers from across the University to read a work of poetry or fiction on the topic of food, eating, cooking, etc. There will be a donation box left very visibly by the door along with cardboard boxes for non-perishable foods. A lot has happened since I posted last, and lots more is about to happen: - the Ardmore project finished for this year with a second book launch, this time a collection by adults about their childhood memories. Well now that my time in Ardmore is coming to an end - apart from the events I'm hosting during the Pattern Festival in July, see homepage - I'm looking forward to the next few months' events, namely: ...for info on my workshop 'Writing Along the Saint Declan's Way' happening as part of the Ardmore Pattern Festival in July!
Tonight at 6pm in UCC bookshop my young writers' group from Colaiste an Phiarsaigh school will read from the book they put together by themselves, 'I, too, have Words.' I hadn't seen a lot of the work until I proofed the text and it is mindblowing, savagely honest and even revolutionary. All are welcome, so come and see what the future of Irish literature will be.
So , tour update! So far we've presented books to the mayor of Rennes and read to lovely audiences in Maison de l'Europe, Nantes, and the absolutely beautiful Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris, and tonight we're just about to read in St Gaudy Cafe, Berlin. Tomorrow the Munich Readery. We've met lots of poets, and the work of creating communication and a network between women poets across Europe is well underway. In the coming months we'll be collecting submissions for an anthology of European women's poetry to follow the tour and to work towards further, more extensive European literary linking events, so spread the word! Women writers are constantly written out (pardon the phrasing) of literary history and maybe creating stronger links between ourselves is one way to combat that.
