Creative Self-Isolation :)
Here's a series of little creative writing videos I've done to help anyone struggling with isolation during this strange time to find inspiration and even gratitude in the little things around you, the views from your windows, your imagination and your senses. This was originally a project for the wonderful Cork City Libraries. Please share them with anyone you think they might help. Thanks!

Examples of Other Workshops:
Writing Cork Streets (upcoming 2020)
A series of walking writing workshops through the streets of the city as part of the Lifelong Learning Festival 2020, using the theories of Ginko, mindful walking and the physicalising of internal journeys in the real landscape to create original work about our place in the world around us.
Cork City Pilgrimages: Walking and Writing Trail 2019
Collaborative series of walking writing workshops with Dr. Richard Scriven, supported by Cork City Libraries, exploring our relationship to the city and its history. Fully booked.
Some participant feedback:
- ‘For me, [what was surprising was] discovering a new way of looking at the city – different ways of getting around and those interesting alleyways.’
- ‘Hidden gems in a city I thought I was familiar with.’
- ‘I didn’t realise I knew so little about a city I have visited frequently for 40+ years.’
- ‘I thought I wasn’t that interested in history, or Cork, but this opened my eyes to how taking time to think about places and what they mean is very inspirational.’
- Must revisit many places. Didn’t realise my ignorance of my city was so huge – time to correct this.’
Cliff Ginko 2016-present
Annual cliff walk writing workshop as part of Doolin Writers’ Weekend (ongoing) – elements of the journey through life and through our own minds are physicalised in the awe-inspiring landscape of the cliffs, with an awareness of the senses and of fine detail in our surroundings. Always fully booked.
Some participant feedback:
- ‘definitely the highlight of the weekend for me.’
- ‘my grand finale, a cliff top writing workshop – just fantastic!’
Writing Along Saint Declan’s Way 2013-2015
Walking writing workshop along the ancient pilgrimage path from Ardmore to the Rock of Cashel, as part of Ardmore Pattern Week with support from Waterford Arts Office. This engagement also included series of writing workshops for adults and schoolchildren, and the publication and launching of collections of work by these local participants. All events were fully booked.
I have taught creative writing extensively in the community including with the Cork Simon Community (the ‘Mementoes’ project, among others), residents of Direct Provision accommodation centres, migrant women’s group Sawa Le, Deis primary and secondary schools, support groups for retired people, and many others.
