Catch the Moon

FOUR WOMEN, FOUR THEMES, FOUR VOICES, FOUR STORIES:
Catch the Moon is a poetry and harp ensemble founded by Kathy D'Arcy, Tina Pisco, Shirley McClure, Jane Clarke and harper Anja Bakker IN 2009. The ensemble has toured extensively to Arts and Literary festivals throughout Ireland (including Flatlake, the Cork Spring Literary Festival, the Slieve Bloom Literary Festival, and the West Cork Literary Festival) appearing most recently at the Boyle Arts Festival in Roscommon.
***CATCH THE MOON ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE FOR EVENTS TOGETHER, BUT ALL MEMBERS PERFORM SEPARATELY***
Four women - Jane Clarke, Kathy D’Arcy, Shirley McClure and Tina Pisco present a poetry performance which flows between their unique voices, addressing a range of themes, from love and sex to loss and death; from men and women to nature and home, from yoga and shopping to food and sensuality. Catch The Moon is accompanied by the accomplished harper, Anja Bakker.
Catch the Moon first performed at the West Cork Literary Festival in July 2010 to delighted acclaim. Since then Catch the Moon has performed at Culture Night and as part of the Trash Culture Revue in Cork, in Kilkenny and at The Space Inside in Wicklow. Catch the Moon was back in Cork at the Cork Spring Literary Festival in February 2011 and performed at the Arts & Irish Festival in Durrow on St. Patrick’s weekend that year, as well as headlining at the Slieve Bloom Storytelling Festival. This summer Catch the Moon have been invited to appear at the Boyle Arts Festival in Roscommon as part of their 2012 tour.
During the 50 minute performance each poet introduces one of the four themes, which vary depending on the venue, the audience and the season. Each poet then reads two poems linked to the theme. This format is designed to keep the listeners' interest and highlight differences as well as resonances between very different poems. The result is an intimate and entertaining exchange between the poets and the audience.

Biographies:
Winner of Cork Literary Review's Manuscript Competition 2009 and runner-up in the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award 2009, Shirley McClure's début collection of poetry, Who's Counting? (Bradshaw Books) was launched by Poetry Ireland in September 2010. Bloodaxe poet Katie Donovan says of Shirley McClure's work, “Quirky and wise, studded with razor-sharp double entendres and droll fantasies, these poems introduce a refreshing new voice in Irish poetry”. Originally from a farm in Roscommon, Jane Clarke now lives in Wicklow. She has published widely and awards include Listowel Writers Week (2007); runner-up in the 2009 Fish Poetry Prize and the 2010 Windows Publications Prize. She won the iYeats International Poetry Competition in July 2010. Her contemplative, lyrical poems with evocative rural imagery have an eye for the moments in life that might otherwise pass unnoticed. |
